Company Retreats in the Alentejo — Slow Time, Wine Country, Dark Skies

Where Portugal slows down and the team can finally hear itself think.

Alentejo is where Portugal exhales. Ninety minutes south of Lisbon the landscape opens — golden plains, cork-oak forests, walled villages, vineyards that disappear over the horizon. It's the quietest, slowest, and most contemplative corner of the country, and lately the most quietly luxurious. We plan retreats for international teams of 8 to 80 across both inland Alentejo (Évora, Monsaraz, Alqueva, Reguengos, Estremoz) and the wild Atlantic coast (Comporta, Melides, Costa Vicentina).

Why host your company retreat in Alentejo?

    01

    Slow by design

In Alentejo, time stretches. Long lunches, golden hours that last forever, distances that ask you to sit and notice. Teams arrive busy and leave actually rested — the kind of reset that's hard to find anywhere else in Europe.

    02

    Portugal's wine country

Family-run wineries from Reguengos to Vidigueira, cork-oak landscapes (the montado) that have looked the same for centuries, and remarkable restaurants in single-village settings. Most of it still flies under the international radar.

    03

    Europe's clearest skies

The Alqueva region became the world's first certified Starlight Tourism Destination in 2011. A guided stargazing night here — telescopes, a late dinner under the Milky Way — is the kind of moment a team remembers for years.

    04

    Two airports within 2h

Alentejo sits between Portugal's two international hubs. Évora is 1h 30 from Lisbon (LIS) and the south of the region is under 2h from Faro (FAO) — so international teams can fly into whichever airport has the best connections and still reach the venue the same day.

How much does a 3-day retreat in Alentejo cost?

All-inclusive ranges — accommodation, meals, ground transfers, activities, meeting space, and our planning fee.

    Casual / boutique

    €700–€1,200
    per person · 3 days

Rural villa or family-run agroturismo, hands-on local vendors, very relaxed pace.

    Mid-range

    €1,200–€2,000
    per person · 3 days

Estate takeover or boutique hotel, polished itinerary, wine experiences and chef-led meals.

    High-end

    €2,000–€3,500+
    per person · 3 days

Luxury estates and private vineyards, premium activities, white-glove logistics throughout.

What moves the price most: time of year (April–June and September–October are peak), group size (under 12 people loses estate-takeover efficiency), and whether you want a full venue takeover or rooms at a boutique hotel. When is the best time of year?

The best months for Alentejo are April through June and September through October. You get 22–30 °C days, long golden hours, lower prices than peak summer, and the landscape at its most photogenic — green in spring, gold in autumn.

    March / November

Cool but workable. Beautiful light, almost no other visitors, very atmospheric for focus-heavy or wellness retreats.

    July / August

Hot. Interior Alentejo can hit 38–42 °C in the day. We generally steer clients to the coast in these months, or recommend other regions entirely.

    December – February

Mild for southern Europe (8–16 °C). Limited outdoor activities, but excellent for slow leadership retreats, fireside strategy work, and quiet winter wines.

    Frequently asked questions

Alentejo is well-positioned between Portugal's two international airports. From Lisbon (LIS): Évora is about 1h 30, Monsaraz and Alqueva around 2h, Comporta and Melides 1h 15 to 1h 30. From Faro (FAO) in the Algarve: the southern Alentejo coast (Vila Nova de Milfontes, Costa Vicentina) and Beja are 1h 30 to 2h, and Évora is reachable in 2h 30. We coordinate ground transport for the full group from whichever airport works best for your team.

It depends on the team. For leadership offsites, wellness retreats, and strategy work, the quietness is exactly the value. For higher-energy team-building, we usually mix Alentejo with one half-day on the coast or build the agenda around food, wine, and outdoor activities.

In Évora and at every venue we work with, yes. Some smaller villages have less English in casual interactions, but every vendor, driver, and activity guide we book operates fluently in English.

We plan Alentejo retreats from 8 people up to roughly 80. Beyond 80 the venue options thin out and we'd typically recommend Lisbon or Porto instead, or splitting the group across two estates.

The Alqueva region became the world's first Starlight Tourism Destination in 2011. Light pollution is among the lowest in Europe. We arrange guided nights with astronomers, telescopes, and a long late dinner under the Milky Way.

The grape harvest (vindima) runs from late August through September. Most family-run wineries welcome group visits year-round — we can include stomping, barrel tastings, or full blending sessions depending on the season.
